Master Mahdi, entitled to Musavar al-Mulk, was one of the painters and illustrators of the early 14th century. According the dates of his works, it is clear that he got accepted by Naser al-Din Shah Qajar from the year 1893 to the last years of his life. He was a special painter and grown up in the Qajar court. He received the title of Musavar al-Mulk during the time of Muzaffar al-Din Shah, and from these years onwards, Mirza Mehdi Khan called himself Musavar al-Mulk. He also painted portraits and landscapes. He was interested in social issues and drawing different scenes of life, ordinary people in different situation, diversity of different professions, gatherings, private meetings, misery and poverty of his time. He lived during the end of the Nasri period and the entire period of Mozafari and the beginning of the reign of Muhammad Ali Shah. He was also an illustrator of "Sheraft" newspaper and he was also proficient in the art of photography and for some time he was the secretary of Haj Muhammad Hasan Amin al-Zarb.
